Love me some Jimmy Fallon.For the record I think that it's right cool that Tim Tebow is enjoying success in the NFL right now AND being himself. All the kids out there running around playin in the backyard are learning that heart and intangibles matter. Nothing wrong with that. I was an all-heart athlete myself, and I know that when things were going right I never counted on it to stay forever and I was always quick to thank teammates and coaches and fans. I relished every second of my sports experiences and they remain some of the happiest times of my life. I'd like to think that Tebow with all his thanking of his God is just relishing his moments too. Nothing wrong with that. Tim Tebow is good for the game. Period. He's great for the "underdog" in all of us. And personally I'd root for some sort of JC+Florida Gator voodoo magic over Tom Brady and Bill Belicheck any day. You head me :-)

When a big time professional sports team in America wins a championship it is customary to visit the sitting president for congratulations.So, the Dallas Mavericks went to the White House yesterday so that Obama could slap high fives and get a jersey etc. All the Mavs players were there expect for one- guard Delonte West. Why? Becuase he failed a criminal background check.WHAT!?Come on. That's pretty lame that the DC goons wouldn't let him in. But it gets better. Here's what Delonte West had to say about it:

2011 and Improvisation...

2011. The greatest year of my life? As of yet? Yes. Evidence, as memory serves it up piece-meal with out deadline or specific assignment/task comes in spurts and sparks but a whirl I’ll give it.

The birth of my son on March 5th at 5:05 pm was... (to finish this sentence already seems cheap. was cool, was exhausting, was neat, unreal, mind blowing, frustrating, snotty, prophetic, lonely, funny. And then some. Cheap is a feeling that upon context + regard for time and attention may just be a part of the process. No editing.).

I have video footage of the first hour or so of his life. I have his first primal cries of surprise as he was lifted (I wasn’t in the OR nor have I performed- so perhaps he was pulled, tugged, lugged, spirited) from a Cesarean section birth by a Korean doctor I had then known for 6 months. He smokes too. In the bathroom even- which I hate the commonness of here in Korea. But none of this bothered me. The lil clinic was perfect and I would recommend it to my best friend for a perfect birthing experience.

His (my son’s) cries were loud (again cheap...loud? The shrillness is not movie like. And being MY first son’s cry, the sound came near to inducing vomittic reactions) And I vomit poorly. As in I have no rally to that boot.

Ironically with all I had formally read about child birth (quite a bit, most notably the Mayo Clinic’s Guide To a Healthy Pregnancy- big ups) my first thoughts and comments were about how cold he must be. You can hear it in the video. I say over and over again (through crazy constant sniffles, more on those later) that he must be freezing. I hate being cold. Hate it. And to go from a cozy sac of warmth and wet to the cruel world of cold, dry and nuclear weapons sounds like hell.

So he’s crying/screaming while his mother is being sewed up. I’m across the hall with his mother’s parents who speak pretty-much no English. Our faces said enough. Mom was patient and curious. Dad was ready, and aware that I was about to pass-out from new experience over-heating. My face...on the video it looks happy, giddy, sure but not. I can tell you that I had no clue what would happen next. That’s a tough face to make. Try it. It’s one of those that mixes concern with non. That might be the defining emotion for that day. The train wreck that is a new life exploding onto the scene of Earth is without a script. It is the purest form of improvisation. You prioritize by reading books and counting on professionals and loved ones etc. but you haven’t a clue.

For example...when the mother’s water broke at around midnight the 5th we had just finished a pizza topped with jalapeno peppers. I had not had japs on a pizza in FOREVER! How was I to know that these little green monsters would be the main reason: not my lack of sleep, not my emotions running wild, not my over-sensitive response to life/love and people in general, for my incessant and most annoying sniffles on the here-comes-the-baby video?

For the entire 50 minutes you hear me holding snot up in my nasal cavity. Why? WHY? Because the mother of my child had an emergency c-section at a wonderful tiny lil place which in turn provided me the incredible luxury/obligation of holding my baby for the first 45 minutes of his whole life. AND since I can’t say “Will you hold my baby while I blow my nose?” (which wouldn't have mattered anyway for after the nurses did all the baby just born “stuff” Mom, Dad and the staff left me alone in the room with my son to give me privacy) in Korean, I spent those 45 minutes trying not to inadvertently drip snot on my kid’s precious face. Achilles, shirtless, sniffling at a rate of 3.5 sniffs a second, rotating back and forth on a tiny doctor’s rolly-chair, alone, in Korea, babbling to his baby boy about the new-world ice-age in front of a tripod rigged point and shoot camera.

And that was the very first time I had ever held a baby in my life. Improv.

2011...most definitely the best year of my life.

Underrated streak: Streaks make up some of the most memorable moments in sports history. Brett Favre started 297 consecutive regular-season games. Johnny Unitas threw at least one touchdown pass in 47 straight games. Cal Ripken played in 2,632 consecutive games. Joe DiMaggio hit in 56 straight games. Orel Hershiser pitched 59 consecutive scoreless innings. John Wooden led UCLA to 88 straight wins. Geno Auriemma led the UConn women to 90 straight wins.

But there is one streak that has not garnered anywhere close to the attention the others have, yet is nearly as impressive in its own way. A player from the University of Miami has scored a touchdown on 149 straight NFL weekends, spanning nine years dating all the way to Week 14 of the 2002 season. Since then, at least one former Hurricane has found the end zone every NFL weekend. It's odd how a school that has conducted its business so loudly and brashly has built up the most impressive streak in the NFL so quietly. Yet it has.

Only now, the streak could be on the verge of garnering even more attention. Three former Hurricanes -- Saints tight end Jimmy Graham, Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson and Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne -- are on their bye this week. Other former Miami standouts -- 49ers running back Frank Gore, Bears returner Devin Hester, Broncos running back Willis McGahee, and Redskins wide receiver Santana Moss -- are banged up.

It could be up to former Miami tight ends Greg Olsen and Jeremy Shockeyin Carolina, and Kellen Winslow in Tampa Bay, to extend the league's most impressive and most underpublicized streak.

Miami's streak is listed as questionable for this week and could be downgraded to doubtful by Sunday. But if the Hurricanes can find one more Sunday to get it done, then they will hit a milestone mark that merits attention with some of sports most memorable streaks.
